Raising the Bar

Glassworks recently collaborated with Steven Langford Architects, Inc. of Santa Ana, CA on the upgrade of the bar for the J. Alexander's restaurant in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. A restaurant chain known for its contemporary fare and quality dining experience, the centerpiece of the new bar is the solid glass bar top created by Glassworks. A welcoming design that gracefully meanders along 60 lineal feet of customer-friendly space, the bar top is comprised of ¾" clear kiln-fired glass embedded with a graceful array of multi-green and yellow glass shards. "In the firing process, the color shards melt into the clear glass, creating a fluid range of hues throughout," explains Glassworks owner, Tish Oye. "The unique flow of color and translucency that results is integral to the overall design." Lit from the inside, the bar top provides a visual feast for patrons as well as a practical food serving environment.

Created in nine individual panels, each portion of the bar top was packed and shipped to Florida and installed under the watchful eye of the Glassworks team. "In a project like this," continues Oye, "It is important that the individual pieces are assembled to create a seamless flow of color and design."

A restaurant chain known for its original thinking and commitment to architectural design and unique building finishes, original artwork is part of the trademark décor in all J. Alexander's restaurants. The inclusion of the Glassworks bar top in the Palm Beach Gardens location is the first time J. Alexander's has incorporated a glass bar as part of its commitment to original art.
